Thomas J Mullen Jr, K.M., of Hillsborough NJ formerly of Mullen Crest Farm in Oldwick, Hunterdon County New Jersey, passed away on Monday April 3rd 2017. Thomas was 92. He was born on June 10 1924 in Cincinnati Ohio. He attended the US Military Academy at West Point and New York University, taking his degree in 1949. On June 20th 1953, he married Joan Gertrude Tyne of Berkeley Heights New Jersey. Together they had 8 children and were married until her death in 2008. After serving in the Army he joined his father at US Bronze Powder of Flemington New Jersey and dedicated himself to the raising of his family, the study of military history and entered the Sovereign Military Order of Malta in 1961 following his father who entered in 1954. He served in the order for over 55 years with dedication. He and his wife, Joan, were very supportive of their children’s interests and passions and subsequently the Hunterdon County youth and 4-H. They instilled in them a love of reading and thirst for lifelong learning, desire for education, responsibility, the values of hands on work and honest labor.
Thomas was predeceased by his parents Thomas J Mullen and Mary White Mullen, his sister June Therese Mullen, his beloved wife Joan Tyne Mullen, and their son Patrick. He is survived by his seven children: Thomas Gerald Mullen and his wife Li Chin, June Reed Reisinger and her husband John Reisigner, Eileen Mullen Barone and her husband Peter Barone, Sean Tyne Mullen, Maureen Mullen Lynch and husband Christopher Lynch, Kevin Michael Mullen and his beloved Diane Marshall, James Joseph Mullen and his wife Elise Ansel. He was the doting grandfather to Mary, James, Ryksmyrn, Scarlet, Dorothy, John, Ingrid, Joey, Mitchell, Alexis and Victoria and 7 great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 10 AM in Mary Mother of God Roman Catholic Church, 157 S Triangle Rd, Hillsborough Township, NJ under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Private interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Elizabeth, NJ.
