Benjamin Goodman, age 88 years, of Franklin Township, Hunterdon County, NJ, died on Tuesday, January 1, 2008 at his residence.
Born in New York City, NY, July 22, 1919, son of the late Isidor and Annie Gronich Goodman, he had resided in Franklin Township for the past fifty-six years.
A United States Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II, Mr. Goodman attained the rank of Captain and received numerous medals and citations, including the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Purple Heart.
He was a self-employed Fur Merchant in New York City, NY for many years.
A member, past Vice-President and Religious Chairman of the Flemington Jewish Community Center, Flemington, NJ, Mr. Goodman was also the Commander of the Jewish War Veterans Post #665 on and off for the past fifty years. Additionally, he served for twenty-eight years on the Franklin Township Planning Board.
He was pre-deceased by three brothers, Perry, Gus and Morris Goodman.
A devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Benjamin is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Mildred Lederman Goodman; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and Alan Hans of Fair Lawn, NJ, Carol and Marc Cohen of River Vale, NJ and Judith and Robert Kay of Plainsboro, NJ; his grandchildren, Jeff and Emily Hans, Brian Hans, Eric and Dana Cohen, and Scott and Barry Kay; and his great grandson, Jacob Daniel Hans.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will follow in the Flemington Jewish Community Cemetery, Flemington, NJ. Please visit www.holcombefisher.com for further information or to send condolences.
