Jack Newman "Bud" MacKinnon, age 83 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died on Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at Independence Manor, Raritan Township, NJ.

Born in Seattle, WA, May 11, 1921, he was the son of the late Charles L. and Margaret Jones MacKinnon. He had resided in Raritan Township, NJ for the past two years, having previously resided in Carmichael, CA.

Mr. MacKinnon was reared in San Francisco, CA, and graduated from Lowell High School. He attended San Francisco City College and the University of Wyoming.

After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the United States Army, entering their Aviation Cadet Program. Mr. MacKinnon served as a pilot with a four engine bomb group in Africa and Italy during World War II, and was an active duty pilot with the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was separated with the rank of Captain. He was a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart.

Mr. MacKinnon was employed by the Pacific Bell Telephone Company for thirty-six years, retiring in 1983 as Public Affairs/Public Relations Director. He held positions in San Francisco, San Jose, and Sacremento, CA, as well as in Seattle, WA.

He was Past President of the San Jose Advertising Club. He was a board member of the Stanford Settlement, and was a past member of the Carmichael Rotary Club, and the Big Brothers of San Jose, CA. He was a member of St. Georges Episcopal Church in Carmichael.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Kellogg MacKinnon, of Raritan Township, NJ; a son, Bruce Kellogg MacKinnon, of Raritan Township, NJ; a sister, Merle J. Patterson, of Seattle, WA; and a grandson, Brian Kellogg MacKinnon, of Raritan Township, NJ.

Funeral services and interment in San Joaquin National Cemetery, Gustine, California will be private under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. There will be no calling hours. Please visit www.holcombefisher.com for futrther information.
