"Jim" James P. Stahl

d. January 5, 2014

"Jim" James P. Stahl, age 64 years, died on Sunday, January 5, 2014, at his home in Delaware Township.

Born in Darby, Pennsylvania on February 27, 1949, Jim was the son of the late Donald C. and Dolores Buchan Stahl. He resided in Hunterdon County for the past 30 years, having formerly lived in Delaware County, Pennsylvania and Tampa, Florida.

The Executive Vice-President and Co-Founder of Specified Technologies, Inc., Branchburg, New Jersey, he held numerous patents for fire protection. He was considered one of the fathers of the firestop industry and his work as an engineer, chemical formulator, and researcher predated many of the modern codes and standards that mandate use of such products. Many modern firestop materials are based upon technology that he first developed. He was a founding member of the International Firestop Council, a member of the NFPA, ASTM and Chaired the NEMA firestop section in the 1980’s.

Jim was a classic car lover and an enthusiastic participant in countless cruise night events throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He was passionate about genealogy, and traced his roots to a family church in Marietta, Pennsylvania. He owned a second home in Tarpon Springs, Florida, and spent some of his happiest moments there fishing along the flats or on Lake Tarpon, and cheering his beloved Phillies during spring training.

During his children's youths, he coached in the Amwell Valley Baseball and South County Soccer Leagues, and was a former Boy Scout leader. He was also involved with the Princeton Elks Lodge.

Jim was predeceased by his parents, as well as his brother, Donald C. Stahl, and brother-in-law, Michael Fowler.

He is survived by his loving wife of forty-two years, Teresa Fowler Stahl; a son and daughter-in-law, James P. Stahl II and Monica Stahl of Princeton Junction, New Jersey; two daughters and sons-in-law, Monica and Sean Hoopes of Three Bridges, New Jersey and Corinne and Joseph Ansel of Levittown, Pennsylvania; and five grandchildren, Emma and Tyler Stahl, and Zachary, Sophie, and Sarah Hoopes, with his sixth grandchild, a granddaughter, due in May. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Gene Rutter of Media, Pennsylvania; his sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary Fowler, John and Rose Bell, and Elizabeth Fowler; and countless nieces, nephews, and friends.

Jim was a proud and honorable man who rose from humble beginnings. He was a generous man who gave tirelessly of his time, wisdom, and love, and he will be so greatly missed by many.
