Ada Jane Edwards, age 94, died peacefully Friday, June 13, 2014 at home in Raritan Township, NJ.
Born August 11, 1919 in Pontypool, Ontario, Canada, Jane – as she liked to be called – was the daughter of the late William and Edith (Jones) Smith. Jane grew up on a grain and potato farm in Ontario, and moved to Peterborough, Ontario where she worked at Westclox during the Second World War. She and her late husband of 47 years, James Glyn Edwards, emigrated to the United States in 1956, where they settled in Niles, Michigan. Both worked for Montgomery Ward until their retirement in 1986. After James Glyn’s death in 1994, Jane moved to Flemington, NJ to live with her daughter and son-in-law.
Ada was an avid gardener, and loved crafts, painting, quilting and knitting. She is remembered by her family as a completely unselfish person of boundless generosity whose constant concern in life was what she could do for others.
In addition to her husband Glyn, Jane was predeceased by sisters, Lila Taylor, Maude Nicholson, Sadie Bonner, and brother, Jack Smith. She is survived by her daughter Lyn and son-in-law Don Anderson of Flemington; granddaughter and her husband, Elizabeth and Alex vanVeldhuisen of Readington Township, NJ; grandson Col. Gregory Anderson (USAF) and his wife Lt. Col. Cynthia Anderson of Colorado Springs, CO; sisters, Bessie McIlwain of London, Ontario, Canada, Josephine Whiteside and Jean Moncrief of Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. Jane has three great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Jared vanVeldhuisen, Chloe Anderson, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at St. Magdalen de Pazzi Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will be the following week in Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles, MI. There are no calling hours.
