Adalcina Antao Moreira

Adalcina Antao Moreira, 90, passed away on June 26, 2014, with her family at her side.

Adalcina, the daughter of Jose and Herminia Antao, was born on May 14, 1924 in Salreu, Portugal where she grew up with her four siblings, Maria Herminia, Helena, Jose and Antonio. In 1951, Carlos Moreira took a vacation to Portugal where he met the beautiful and kind Adalcina, and they married in Fatima, Portugal. Adalcina journeyed to America to join her husband, where together they raised a family of four children in Flemington, NJ, relying every step of the way on their Old World values.

Together, Adalcina and Carlos built a successful business, Moreira Construction Company. While Carlos was out in the field, Adalcina was meticulous with all their accounts, and together they were able to secure their future. In 1970, they bought a farm, which has been Adalcina's home for the last 40 years.

Adalcina was a master chef, and enjoyed gathering her family and friends in her home to share a meal together. She passed on her old Portuguese family recipes to her children, and there was no greater complement than to hear, "This is almost as good as Mom's!" Adalcina was proud of her food, but food was most importantly about love and nurture. She would often prepare late night snacks for her children as they finished up writing a term paper at 2 a.m.

Adalcina taught her children and grandchildren about love, for she loved her family above all else.

She is survived by her four children, Adalcina, Herminia, Maria, and Carlos; three grandchildren, Alexander, Alysia and Olivia; two sisters, Maria Herminia and Helena, and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be on Sunday, June 29 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 30 at 10 a.m. at St. Magdalen Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington. Entombment will follow at St. Magdalen Mausoleum.
