Alan D. Birnbaum, age 61 years, of Bethlehem Township, NJ, died Monday, February 4, 2013, at his home.

Born in Dover, NJ, October 24, 1951, son of Ruth Jones Birnbaum of Hackettstown, NJ and the late Norris Birnbaum,

he had resided in Bethlehem Township since 1982.

A graduate of Trenton State College with a BA in Music Education, he attended the Chubb Institute and was a computer programmer. He was first employed by Beneficial Finance, then by Household Finance, then by Met Life and lastly by Volvo-Mack Trucks, Allentown, PA.

An accomplished musician, he was an member of the Plainfield Symphony Orchestra and the Central Jersey Symphony where he played both the oboe and english horn. He also was a member of the Somerset Hills Symphony and played in the orchestra at Paper Mill Playhouse, Milburn, NJ.

Active for many years at the Central Hunterdon Baptist Church, Raritan Township, NJ, he was an elder and taught Bible studies there as well.

An avid cyclist, he participated in many cycling charity events for several years.

His first wife, Barit Birnbaum, died in 2002 and a brother, Eric Birnbaum, died in 1994.

Surviving are his wife, Lucila "Angie" Birnbaum; four sons, Christopher, Evan and Forrest, all at home, and Daniel of East Orange, NJ; two daughters, Grace Birnbaum and Daisy Nicole Birnbaum, both at home; his mother; and two sisters, Leah Fritz of Sciota, PA. and Andrea May of Grand Rapids, MI.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 10, 2013, at 1:00PM in Central Hunterdon Baptist Church, 325 Route 31, Flemington, NJ. Calling hours will be Saturday 6:00-9:00PM at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will be in Musconetcong Valley Cemetery, Hampton, NJ.
