Alice B. Rigas, of Raritan Township, died peacefully at home on Saturday, November 2, 2019. Born on January 7, 1920, in Newark, NJ, Alice was the daughter of the late Elizabeth (Saltzer) and J. Grant Johnson. She graduated from Irvington, NJ, public schools and worked for the Prudential Life Insurance Company in Newark prior to her marriage to the late Nicholas A. Rigas.
Alice and Nick were happily married for 63½ years and had two daughters, Alice J. Feret, of Blacksburg, VA, and Carole E. Rumpf, of Ridgefield, CT. The family lived in Westwood, NJ, for many years before relocating to the Flemington area in 1964.
A proud, 47-year member of the Flemington Woman’s Club, Alice also volunteered as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, PTA secretary, an Eastern Star sister, and worked for the Hunterdon County Board of Elections. She was a member of the Flemington Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Deacon and participated in the Women’s Association. An avid golfer for many years, Alice played with the “Nine-Holers” at Copper Hill Country Club and tap danced with the Hunterdon County Senior Center “Happy Tappers”.
Alice will be sorely missed by her daughters and her five grandchildren: Peter N. Feret and wife Lisa of Knoxville, TN, Matthew P. Feret and wife Nikole of Bolingbrook, IL, Andrea J. Feret and husband Mac Liveakos of Greensboro, NC, James L. Rumpf of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Jill E. Olds and husband Kevin of Fairfield, CT. She leaves behind seven great-grandchildren: Nicholas and Katherine Feret; Isabella, Lillian, and Paul Feret; Zachary and Thomas Olds, plus several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Viewing hours are 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM, Friday, November 22, at Holcombe Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main St., Flemington, NJ 08822. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 23 at 10:30 AM at Flemington Presbyterian Church, 10 E. Main St., Flemington, NJ 08822. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Flemington, NJ.
