Allan D. Pietrefesa

April 17, 1952 — September 21, 2023

Allan D. Pietrefesa, age 71, of Raritan Township, NJ died Thursday, September 21, 2023 at Hunterdon Medical Center, with his family at his side.

Born on April 17, 1952 in New Brunswick, NJ, Allan was the son of the late Frederick and Margaret (Sinko) Pietrefesa. Growing up in South Brunswick, NJ, Allan graduated with the Class of 1970 from South Brunswick High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, PA in 1974. Allan was a star athlete in high school; he threw multiple no-hitters as a baseball pitcher and was the starting quarterback of the football team. He also played baseball and football in college, where he met Donna Morio, whom he married in 1978. Allan and Donna lived in Jamesburg, NJ and then Lawrenceville, NJ before settling in Raritan Township, NJ in 1992 to continue raising their family. Allan retired in 2015 as the Municipal Manager and Finance Officer of Raritan Township after many years of service in municipal government.

Allan loved the 1970s – especially the music. Listening favorites included the Beatles, Steely Dan, the Doobie Brothers, and Eric Clapton. Every Christmas, Allan brought out and sang along to the Andy Williams Christmas Album and loved reciting lines from the “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” movie. His love of sports carried on throughout his life, especially as an avid fan of the NY Yankees and the NY Giants.

Allan loved the New Jersey shore, especially Long Beach Island, where he enjoyed a family vacation this past summer. He and Donna traveled domestically and internationally. His travel highlights include an Alaskan cruise and land tour, Niagara Falls, England and Scotland, and a Danube River cruise in Europe. He loved dogs, pork roll, playing card games, and watching country western classics. “PopPop” most enjoyed spending time with his three granddaughters, teaching them to play cards, attending their school functions and performances, and cheering them on at soccer games. They were truly the light of his life.

In addition to his parents, Allan was predeceased by his brother, Fred Pietrefesa, Jr. in 2020. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Donna; his daughter and son-in-law, Ashley and Patrick Hart of Northbridge, MA; his son, Jeff Pietrefesa of Portsmouth, RI; his three granddaughters, Maeve, Gwen, and Micaela; his sister, Janice Russo of Macungie, PA; his dear cousin, Ilona Gundersen of Monmouth Junction, NJ; his lifelong best friend and cousin, Salvatore Scurato of Plainsboro, NJ and his wife, Sharon; as well as many other cousins, nieces and nephews.

Allan’s family would like to extend its gratitude to Dr. Swee Jian Ngeow, Dr. Ben Geishauser, Dr. Christopher West, and the staff of Hunterdon Medical Center for their excellent and compassionate care.
