Andrew G. Skurla, age 92, died Monday, August 28, 2017 at his home in Galloway Township NJ, surrounded by his loving family.
Born October 24, 1924 in Trenton NJ, Andy was the son of the late Andrew J. and Anna (Bacsik) Skurla. He lived in Trenton nearly all his life before moving to Atlantic County more than 20 years ago.
Andy was a US Navy veteran where he served during World War II in the Pacific and European theaters, notably participating in the D-Day invasion at Normandy. After his service to the Navy, he worked as a Union Representative for Hill Refrigeration in Trenton, retiring after more than 44 years.
A fun-loving, generous, and happy man, what Andy loved most was spending time with his family, enjoying many trips to the Atlantic City casinos and travelling to the island of Aruba, watching Western movies and TV shows, and had a passion for all Philadelphia sports teams.
In addition to his parents, Andy was predeceased by his former wife, Marjorie Abbott Skurla, his son Andrew W. Skurla, and his four brothers, Walter, Joseph, Edward J. and the Rev. Robert Skurla. He is survived by his sister, Florence A. Donahoe; his two daughters, Sandra Skurla and Marjorie Callahan and her husband, Jeff; his grandson and “main man,” Adam Callahan and his special girlfriend, Taylor Yumet; his five granddaughters, Shannon San Filippo and her husband, Matthew, Chelsee Skurla, Beth Ann Herbert, Sara Halter, and Lindsey Meyer and her husband, Seth; as well as three great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Halter, Gianna Trani, and James McDonough.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am, Friday, September 1, 2017, at St. Mary of the Assumption Byzantine Catholic Church, Grand and Malone Streets, Trenton NJ. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s #2 Cemetery in Hamilton Township. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday evening at the Brenna Funeral Home-Immordino Chapel, 1799 Klockner Rd, Hamilton Township, NJ 08619.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington NJ.
