Angela L. Peterson, age 35 years, a devoted mother, loving wife, cherished daughter and sister, was called home on Sunday, October 20, 2024. Surrounded by her family and closest friends, she found peace in her home in Readington Township, NJ.
Born on November 10, 1988, in Atlantic City, NJ, Angela was the first child born into the loving arms of Michael DeFilippo and Carol Bergman. The family later relocated to Old Bridge, NJ, where she thrived in the presence of extended members. Strong family bonds became quintessential to her life and shaped her values. During the holiday seasons, a special glow lit up her face as she baked seasonal cookies from passed-down recipes, added her artistic touch when decorating the Christmas tree and brought joy to those around her with her gift for bringing people together.
Known for her compassionate nature, Angela enrolled at Northeastern University to pursue a Doctorate of Physical Therapy. Affectionately called "G-La" during these years, she treasured the lifelong friendships formed with her "Roomies," sharing laughter through their post-it wall of inside jokes and late-night study sessions often topped off with ice cream. In addition to her studies, she volunteered for disaster relief and dedicated herself to helping the elderly, for whom she always had a soft heart. It was during her volunteer work that she met her future husband, Matthew Peterson. The couple married in 2016 and settled in Melrose, MA, where they began their family.
As a mother, Angela lived for her children. She taught them to appreciate the small everyday moments, reveling in spontaneous day trips and adventures with her husband that brought joy to their lives. She loved exploring new places with them, whether discovering hidden gems in a rural town or enjoying the great outdoors alongside her beloved dog. Embracing all that life had to offer, she cherished each season with family beach days, long hikes, and relaxing ski trips, teaching them that fresh air was essential to life.
Angela touched the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to experience her kindness, humor, and adventurous spirit. Her ability to find the positives in every situation inspired those around her to overcome doubts and challenges. The memories she created will be cherished forever, and her legacy will live on through her wonderful children and the love she shared with her family and friends.
Angela is survived by her loving husband, Matthew; her three children, Gabriella, Zachary, and Cecilia Peterson; her parents, Michael and Carol; sisters, Alyssa DeFilippo and Michelle DeFilippo and her husband Joey McDonald; her nephew Miles McDonald; her aunts and uncles, William Bergman, Candace Haney, Linda and her husband Charlie Osterholt, Eugene Bergman and Sue DeFilippo; her paternal grandfather, Louis DeFilippo; and her canine best friend, Molly. She was predeceased by her paternal grandmother Carol “Nana” DeFilippo, her maternal grandmother, Joyce Bergman, and her uncle Robert DeFilippo.
