Ann S. Manchur, age 87, died peacefully Friday, June 13, 2014, at the home of her daughter, Georgeann Manchur Faller.
Born on March 27, 1927 in Wilkes Barre, PA, Ann was the daughter of the late Alex and Anna (Malko) Sydorko. She grew up on a dairy farm in Hopewell NJ and has lived in Hunterdon County for more than 60 years.
After graduating from Pennington High School, she received a business degree from Rider College, and held various secretarial jobs in the area including, J. Percy Van Zandt Co. in Blawenburg, NJ, the Del Val Feed & Grain Coop in Flemington, and for Merck at the Dakin Guest House in Branchburg for 35 years. Ann started as a server at Dakin and was promoted up the ranks to become a first-class pastry chef, training with several former White House Pastry Chefs. She is famous locally, for her outstanding carrot cakes and other delicious pastries.
In the early 1950’s, she helped manage and grow her late husband’s auto salvage business, Manchur’s Auto & Truck Salvage Yard in Pittstown, NJ. From 1968 to 2006, Ann was a clerk in Franklin Township for the Planning Board and Board of Adjustments, and a former member of the Board of Education at North Hunterdon High School.
A friend to all animals, Ann volunteered at the Hunterdon Humane Association Thrift Shop and loved visiting all her dogs who came to the shop.
In addition to her parents, Ann was predeceased by her husband, George Manchur who died in 1995, her mother-in-law, Mary Manchur, her brother, Steven Sydorko, her sister and brother-in-law, Helen and John Eskitz, and her niece, Valerie Kent Rose.
Ann is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Georgeann Manchur Faller and Dan Faller of Delaware Township, sister-in-law, Jean Kent of Hamilton, NJ, her nephews, Bradley Kent of Hamilton, NJ and Bruce Kent of Newtown Square, her step-granddaughters, Jennifer Evangelos of Warren, ME, Christina, Jessica, and Abigail Faller all of Portland, ME, her step-grandson, Michael Faller of Flemington, NJ, and Ann’s devoted canine companion, Oliver, who never left her side.
A funeral service will be held at 8 pm on Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ 08822. Friends may call from 5 to 8 pm on Tuesday prior to the service at the funeral home. Cremation will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ann’s name may be made to the NJ SPCA, 576 Stamets Rd, Milford, NJ 08848.
