Anna E. Holbrook, age 81 years, of Bridgewater, NJ, died on Friday, October 28, 2011, in Arbor Glen, Bridgewater, NJ.
Born in Three Bridges, NJ, April 7, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Chester H. and Emma Gould Herder. She had resided in the Somerville, NJ area since 1989.
She was a 1948 graduate of Flemington High School and a 1952 graduate of Hope College, Holland, MI.
She married the Rev. Joseph Holbrook in 1953, and served with him in churches in New Jersey, Chicago, Brooklyn, and Denver. Active in Reformed Church Women's Ministries, she was former president of the Synod West of The Reformed Church Women's Ministry and former member of its executive board. She was formerly a national coordinator and facilitator for Women In Leadership seminars; served as a seminar and retreat leader and was a devotional speaker for women's groups. She was a longtime volunteer for food programs, homeless, and church programs, especially Habitat For Humanity, The Interfaith Hospitality Network, and The Samaritan Homeless of Somerville. She was a member of the Middlebush Reformed Church and the United Reformed Church of Somerville.
Her husband, Rev. Joseph Holbrook, died in 2004. Surviving are two daughters, Harriett E. and her husband David Lui of Hong Kong, and Sarah Harper Holbrook and her husband, W. Allen Scheuch of Brooklyn, NY; a son, Rev. Taylor W. Holbrook and his wife, Cathleen Bast Holbrook, of Hopewell Junction, NY; two brothers, Robert Herder of Flemington, NJ, and C. Edward Herder of Three Bridges, NJ; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 3 PM in the Three Bridges Reformed Church, Main Street, Three Bridges, NJ. Interment will be in Three Bridges Cemetery, Three Bridges, NJ, under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. There will be no calling hours.
