Annie Ségard Dinerstein

Annie Ségard Dinerstein, age 72, passed away peacefully, Thursday, March 14, 2019, at her home in Raritan Township, N.J. She was born Annie Amée Rose Denise Geneviève Ségard on February 12, 1947 in Lyon, France. She was the daughter of the late Serge Ségard and the late Denise (Féllony) Ségard. She was named after Annie Oakley in honor of the role that American soldiers played in liberating France in World War II. At the age of 3, she immigrated with her family to the United States through the sponsorship of an American airman’s family; The Ségard family had hidden him after he had been shot down over France during the war. Annie grew up in Aurora, Illinois, and Grand Rapids, Michigan. She graduated from Grand Valley State College (Allendale, Michigan) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and Spanish. Annie was later to receive a Master of Arts degree in French Literature from Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois. She became an American citizen in 1970. Upon graduating from college, Annie began her career as a teacher of French and Spanish in high school and middle school. After teaching in Holly, Michigan for seven years, she met and married her husband of 42 years, Bob Dinerstein, in Chicago, Illinois. She then continued her career, teaching in an inner-city school in Chicago, as well as schools in Indianapolis, Indiana, and Cincinnati, Ohio. She retired from teaching when her husband was transferred to New Jersey in 1997, and thereafter she pursued her interests in beadwork, Native American cultures, and gardening. She is survived by her loving husband, Bob; her brothers Michel Ségard and his wife, Anne, of Chicago, and Claude Ségard and his wife, Lisa, of Grand Rapids, Michigan; her sisters-in-law, Susan Dinerstein Perri and her husband, Al, of Branchburg, New Jersey, and Anita Dinerstein of Brooklyn, New York; she was pre-deceased by her brother-in-law, Jim Dinerstein. She is survived by four nieces and one nephew, and by three grand-nieces and four grand-nephews. Funeral services will be private under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Annie’s name to the Parkinson’s Foundation 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800 Miami, FL 33131 or St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center, 3201 Route 22 East, North Branch, NJ 08876.
