Anthony J. Vershousky, age 83, died Sunday, July 10, 2022 at ProMedica Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation (Old Orchard) in Easton PA.
Born February 16, 1939, in Newark NJ, Tony was the son of the late Mark and Dorothy (Pine) Vershousky. He grew up in Newark, moved to Avenel NJ, then to Edison NJ, and finally to Palmer PA. Tony had health issues at birth and suffered with juvenile diabetes at a young age, which would carry into his adulthood.
Tony worked doing accounting for Rick Brothers Trucking in Avenel NJ and, eventually, followed his entrepreneurial dream of opening a video rental store – ATOM Video in Milltown NJ. As his health deteriorated, he became a telephone customer service representative.
In his youth, Tony was a member and officer of the Jay-Cees in Woodbridge NJ, where he volunteered much of his time and portrayed Santa for many years. He was an avid reader of newspapers, novels, and anything having to do with history or geography. He enjoyed all types of music and watching movies or taking in an occasional Broadway show. Tony and his wife, Joanne, loved to travel, taking trips to Hawaii and Canada were among some of their favorite places to visit.
Tony was a “people-person” and could have a conversation with just about anyone. He was friendly, and outgoing, and made people feel comfortable. He was always up for a good car-ride, especially with his dachshunds by his side, or any family event that was taking place. His nephews, Zachary and Alex, were able to bring new adventures to Tony’s life including bike and ATV riding, and shooting a gun for the first time.
In addition, Tony and his wife were involved with the "Through These Hands" volunteer organization. The organization is instrumental in sending medical supplies abroad to places like Zambia, Haiti, and the Philippines.
Tony was predeceased by his cousin, Patricia Appleton. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Joanne Wilson-Vershousky, his brother-in-law, William Kiriluk, his niece and her husband, Renee Kiriluk-Hill and David Hill, his nephew and his wife, Mark and Janine Kiriluk, as well as his great-nephews, Zachary Hill, Alex Hill, and Matthew Kiriluk, his great-niece, Anna Kiriluk, his dear friend, Arnelle Hartenstein, of Matawan, NJ, and his dachshund, Bailey, and his cats.
Funeral arrangements are private and under the direction of Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington NJ.
