Anthony R. Porzilli, age 90, died, Saturday, June 21, 2014 at his home in Raritan Township.
Anthony just celebrated his 90th birthday two days prior on June 19th. Born in Jersey City, NJ, he was the son of the late Ralph and Carmela (Serra) Porzilli. Anthony joined the US Army as a Technician installing telephone facilities during World War II, serving in Burma with the Mars Task Force as one of "Merrill's Marauders."
He returned to home and married Marie Suriano and they eventually moved to Dunellen, NJ, where Anthony owned and operated Community Dry Cleaners there. He worked for a time at ITT Labs in Nutley, NJ as an electronic technician.
As an accomplished carpenter and handy-man, he made many pieces of furniture for his home, and was also a mathematician. Anthony travelled the country with Marie, visiting nearly every state in the nation by automobile.
Predeceased by his parents, and his wife, Marie earlier in 2014, Anthony is survived by his daughter, Christine Acrin of Flemington, his daughter and son-in-law, Roberta and Arthur Shively of Flemington, his son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Carolyn Porzilli of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, and his granddaughter, Sara Shively.
Funeral arrangements and cremation are private and under the direction of Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ 08822. There are no calling hours.
