Arlene Anne Graper, of East Amwell Township, NJ, passed away at home on Sunday, August 31, 2014.
Born in Jersey City, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Kathleen McGuire Schember. She grew up in Lyndhurst,NJ. She was a graduate of Montclair State College and was a Professor at Raritan Valley Community College, St. Joseph’s Seminary and many other area schools. She was a member of the Honor Society, Phi Beta Kappa, and leader of the math honor society. Arlene was an active member of many community organizations, including, the Flemington Elks Lodge Ladies Auxiliary, the Ringoes Grange, was past President of the East Amwell Township Board of Education, and was a former Girl Scout Leader and softball coach.
Arlene was predeceased by her siblings, Walter Schember, Jr., Kathleen Hefferle, and Janice Schember. Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Richard S. Graper, Sr., her eight children, John Graper of East Amwell Township, NJ, Joseph (Sally) Graper of New York, Richard Graper of East Amwell Township, NJ, Deborah (Phil) Keyes of Readington Township, NJ, Laura (Lincoln) Karnoff of Raritan Township, NJ, Kathy Graper of Lawrenceville, NJ, Kim Bragg of Flemington, NJ and Jennifer (Bryan) Antley of Ft. Mill, SC, as well as ten grandchildren, Robert (Sam) Keyes, Daniel Keyes, Max Finch, Katie Finch, Jeffrey Karnoff, Alexis Bragg, Christopher Bragg, Marisa Bragg, Nathaniel Antley and Nicholas Antley, and one great grandchild, Olivia Keyes, and she was a mother to them all. Additionally, she is survived by a brother and sister, Richard Schember, and Patricia (Malcolm) McPherson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at St. Alphonsus Church, 54 E. Prospect St., Hopewell, NJ 08525. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, North Greenwood Avenue, Hopewell, NJ. Calling hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ 08822.
