Barbara E. Hyland, age 87 years, of Flemington, NJ, died Tuesday, May 26, 2020, at Rivers Edge Care and Rehabilitation Center, Raritan Borough, NJ.
Born in Flemington, NJ, May 6, 1933, daughter of the late Charles A. and Mary Sheats Gutschmidt, she had resided in the Flemington area most of her life. She also formerly resided in Barnegat, NJ, for four years.
Barbara was first employed by Johns-Manville Corp. Manville, NJ and then by Jelco Corp., Bridgewater, NJ. She then was the Payroll Supervisor for Hunterdon Central High School for several years before retiring.
Barbara was a 1951 graduate of Flemington High School where she played in the school band and developed a lifelong love of classical music and opera. She was also an avid racing fan at the former Flemington Speedway and was a staunch Democrat.
Barbara enjoyed traveling and loved reading especially books concerning World War 2 history.
Her brother, Charles Gutschmidt, died in 2016.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Marla Hyland of Milford, NJ; a daughter, Janice Manfre of Whiting, NJ; a sister, Betty Jane Dudeck of Somerville, NJ; five grandchildren, Meredith Kennedy, Kelly Kennedy, Jamie Skerry, Jennie Leigh Skerry and Timothy Jolly; and two great grandchildren, Noah Eels and Elise Eels.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 30, 2020, at 11:00AM in Newell Cemetery, Stanton, NJ, under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
