Barbara Kurylo passed away December 4th after a prolonged battle with cancer.
She was born in The Bronx, NY and moved to Hunterdon County at the age of 10 with her parents and family in 1963. After graduating from Hunterdon Central Regional High School in 1971 she continued her education with a degree from Mercer County Community College. Barbara made her home and raised her family in Ringoes, NJ. She would find her niche working at Hunterdon Medical Center, where she spent over 35 years working across different departments. Most notably as a long-time receptionist in the ER. After retiring she spent time at Oak Grove Plantation where she enjoyed getting her hands dirty, and being among friends while helping in the kitchen. Barbara also enjoyed being involved at the Kirkpatrick Memorial Church. She served as a deacon, played in the Bell Choir and enjoyed providing her homemade baked goods during coffee hour.
Barbara’s most cherished role was being mother of her three children. She was proud to have instilled a case of wanderlust in all of her kids. With them, she enjoyed the benefit of being able to travel all over the world to such places as Eastern Europe, Australia, Alaska and the western states. Barbara’s home was often a central gathering place for friends and family. She knew how to have a good time and loved to entertain. The back porch and garden were her pride and joy venue for such occasions. She spent countless hours watering, pruning and tending to her colorful and bountiful garden. This space becoming her refuge and solace during her cancer battle. As she was able to, she continued to tend her flower beds and veggies as a way to have some normalcy during a difficult time.
She will be greatly missed by her husband Robert Sr, children Jessica and Robert Jr, and her siblings Joanne, Tommy, Lucia, Ernie, and their families – all of whom included her closely as part of theirs. She will also be missed by her many friends and extended family.
A visitation will be held at the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ on Thursday, December 9th from 4 to 7 pm. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Friday the 10th in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Flemington, NJ.
Please feel free to send flowers as she loved to be surrounded by them always, but donations to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (https://themmrf.org/) in her name are just as precious.
