Barry E. Cregar, age 84 years, a dedicated educator and passionate sports enthusiast, passed away peacefully the morning of Friday, November 8, 2024, at the Serenity Hospice Care Unit in RWJ University Hospital - Hamilton, Hamilton Township, NJ. Born on June 22, 1940, in Easton, PA, he was the son of the late Charles W. and Lena (Seaver) Cregar.
Barry received his early education at Washington High School, graduating in the Class of 1958. He furthered his studies at East Stroudsburg University, graduating in 1962, and went on to achieve a master's degree from Trenton State College (now TCNJ). His dedication to education extended beyond his own learning, as he inspired countless students throughout his esteemed career.
Barry had a profound impact on his community as a high school mathematics teacher at Hunterdon Central Regional High School, where he devoted 40 years of his life from 1962 until his retirement in 2002. Throughout his teaching career, Barry instilled a love for mathematics in his students while also engaging with them outside the classroom. He was a respected baseball coach for the Red Devils and continued to contribute to the athletic community as a football referee well into his retirement. Barry's commitment to education and youth development was evident in every role he took on during his extensive career.
A fervent fan of the New York Giants and the New York Mets, Barry had a competitive spirit that fueled his disdain for the rival Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees. He was known among friends and family for his spirited discussions regarding his favorite or hated teams.
Moreover, Barry, and his late wife Pat, were long-time members of the Kirkpatrick Memorial Presbyterian Church in Ringoes, NJ, where they took joy in being involved in the church and singing in the choir, showcasing their love for music and community.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife of 47 years, Patricia A. Cregar, who passed away in 2013.
Barry is survived by his children, Dayna Cregar and Denise Muller (husband Tom); as well as his grandson, Zachary Muller.
