Beatrice Aten, age 94 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at her residence.
Born in East Amwell Township, NJ, daughter of the late William and Eva Smith Van Marter, she had resided in East Amwell and Raritan Townships all her life.
A l933 graduate of Flemington High School, she was the East Amwell Tax Collector from l950-l983. She gave selflessly of her time and permitted the public into her home prior to construction of the East Amwell Township Municipal Building. During her tenure, she experienced the change from typing tax bills to the computerization of the billing system and processing bills for almost 1900 parcels of land. Honored by the Township of East Amwell and the Central Jersey Tax Collectors and Treasurers Association for her service, she retired in l983.
She was a former member and Past President of the Hunterdon Central Board of Education. She was a seventy year member and former Elder of the Reaville Presbyterian Church, Reaville, NJ.
Her greatest love and accomplishments were taking care of her late husband, Roger Aten, who died in l986 and her son, Jay. There was no greater joy for her than her family.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Kerri Aten, of Phillipsburg, NJ; a granddaughter Kalli Lynn Elliott and her husband, Michael, of New Brunswick, NJ; a great grandson, Cole Michael Elliott; two step-grandchildren, Lauren Boyle and Robert Richline, both of Phillipsburg, NJ; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will follow in Sandy Ridge Cemetery, Delaware Township, NJ. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the Funeral Home.
