Bertha M. Umstead

Bertha M. Umstead, 95, of Hunterdon County died February 19, 2015 at Brandywine Senior Living in Pennington, NJ. Bertha was born on October 3, 1919. The daughter of Arthur & Susan Reep, and the widow of Charles H. Ward, who died in 1984, she lived most of her life in rural Hunterdon County. She married Arthur Umstead in 1988 and enjoyed retirement and traveling. Arthur Umstead died in 1996. Mrs. Umstead was employed in 1942 at the Flemington Auction Market, later at the Hunterdon County Bank of Flemington, and retired from Ortho Pharmaceutical of Raritan in 1982. She is survived by her two children and families: Robert Ward of Nashville, Tennessee, his wife, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and Dorothy Allen of Lambertville, her husband, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She formerly had been very active in The Amwell Church of the Brethren in Sandbook, NJ playing both the piano and organ. She also enjoyed activities at the Ringoes Grange #12. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ 08822. Interment will follow in Rosemont Cemetery, Rosemont, NJ. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
