Betty H. Mehrlust, age 92 years, of Winter Haven FL, died Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Independence Manor in Raritan Township NJ, surrounded by her family. Born August 8, 1924 in New York, NY, Betty was the only child of the late Walter and Gladys (Marx) Lowy. She lived in Manhattan, Sidney NY, and Chicago, before moving to Winter Haven FL 62 years ago. She was graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Cedar Crest College in Bethlehem PA, and taught Home Economics for a period of time. Betty owned an art gallery in Winter Haven FL for many years. Betty enjoyed life to its fullest. She travelled extensively around the world with her late husband, Jessie Mehrlust. They visited nearly every country in all seven continents in their travels. Betty loved musicals, and was a Master Bridge player, however, she most enjoyed spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her daughter, Susan. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Rosemary Mehrlust of Pittstown NJ, her grandsons Ethan and Nathaniel Mehrlust, and her great-grandson, Matteo. Funeral services and interment in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Hawthorne NY will be private and under the direction of Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington NJ. Shiva services will be held at 7 pm on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at the Flemington Jewish Community Center, 5 Sergeantsville Road, Flemington NJ. Memorial contributions in Betty’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eight Avenue, 7th Floor, New York NY 10001.
