Betty Lou Hannum (RN), age 76 years, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at her home in the Flagtown section of Hillsborough Township, NJ.
Born in Phillipsburg, NJ, September 24, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Otto and Mildred (Wooten) Jumper. She grew up in Warren Glen, NJ.
In 1967, during her freshman year at Rutgers University, she met her future husband, Raymond W. Hannum, at a dance. Three months later he went to Vietnam. The couple married on June 23, 1973.
After earning her B.S.N., at Rutgers University, she began her nursing career at New York University. While working at NYU she went back to school there and earned her master’s degree. She worked at NYU for eight years until moving to Bridgewater, NJ in 1978. She then started employment at Somerset Medical Center, as a Critical Care Nurse, where she would spend most of her career. Additionally, she was an Assistant Professor at Raritan Valley Community College, educating future generations of nurses. Betty enjoyed an over forty-year career in nursing, retiring in 2015.
In her spare time, Betty loved going to the Roycefield Swim Club in Hillsborough or traveling to Long Beach Island, NJ. She also loved singing and was a member of the local Sweet Adelines chapter.
Surviving are her husband of 51 years, Raymond W. Hannum of Flagtown, NJ; her children, Eric Hannum (wife Jill) of Branchburg, NJ, Lisa Muentener (Scott) of Stewartsville, NJ, and Kevin Hannum (wife Danielle) of South Amboy, NJ; as well as her seven grandchildren: Brianna, John, Luke, Matthew, Jake, Sean, and Ryan.
Funeral services, con-officiated by Rev. Mary Beth Mardis-Lecroy and Rev. Stephen Park Choi, will take place on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at 11:00 AM in Old Greenwich Presbyterian Church, 17 Greenwich Road, Stewartsville, NJ 08886. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Calling hours will be in the church from 9:00 AM until the time of the service.
