Betty Lou Leverton, age 78 years, of West Amwell Township NJ, died Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at the Hunterdon Care Center in Raritan Township NJ. She lived in Hunterdon County nearly all her life.
Born September 6, 1940, Betty was the daughter of the late Alfred and Hazel (Barrick) Harrison Sr. While growing up, Betty assisted her family on farms in Flemington Junction and Ringoes. She was a graduate of Hunterdon Central Regional High School and in 1960, she married Richard Leverton. The two settled in West Amwell after Richard finished serving in the United States Navy.
Betty worked for a time as a Veterinary Assistant with Stoltz, Garrett & Black in Hopewell Township and volunteered her time teaching Sunday School and Christian Education at Calvary Church in Ringoes. Learning her family’s genealogy was a big part of Betty’s life, and she remained an active member of the DAR for many years.
With her farm background and a ‘self-sustainer,’ Betty was able to provide for her family with vegetables and fruits that were grown on her farm, as well as chickens, pigs, and other farm animals for more than 50 years.
In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her brother, John Harrison. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Richard Leverton, her sons, Timothy James Leverton of St. Augustine FL, and Matthew Richard Leverton of Jackson NJ, her grandson, Ryan Matthew Leverton of Ewing NJ, her sister, Barbra Dennis of Daleville VA, and her brother, Alfred Harrison. Jr., of Flemington NJ.
A Memorial service officiated by the Rev. David Errickson will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Old Rocks Church, 260 Mount Airy Harbourton Road, Lambertville NJ 08530. Everyone is invited following the memorial service to join with the family in the Fellowship Room of the church for food and refreshments.
Interment services were held previously at Amwell Ridge Cemetery in Ringoes.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main St., Flemington NJ.
