Betty Lou "Pepper" Craig, age 92, died Thursday, December 31, 2015 at her home in Hillsborough surrounded by her family.
Born February 16, 1923, in Philadelphia, Pepper was the daughter of the late Louis Frederick and Violet Amy (Taylor) Hock. She has lived in the area since the 1950's. An equestrian all of her life, Pepper was a member of the NJ Equine Board, a founding member of the Delaware Valley Horseman's Association, the NJ Half Arabian Horse Association, the Arabian Horse Association, the Hunterdon County and Somerset County Horseman's Association, a former Somerset County 4H Leader, and a founding member of the Somerset Golden Gait 4H Club. She also trained dogs at one time.
She retired as a bus driver for the Valcheck Bus Company in Hillsborough, NJ.
Predeceased by her husband, William Craig in 2001, Pepper is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and Richard Scarlett of Beavertown, PA, and Melissa and Barry Granskie of Flemington. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Rhonda Wright of New Hope, PA, her brother, Louis Hock III, of Texas, her sister, Mickie Hoernle of Doylestown, PA, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at Betty Lou's farm in Hillsborough at 1 pm on Saturday, August 27, 2016. The farm is located at 580 Montgomery Road, Hillsborough, NJ 08844.
Cremation and funeral arrangements are under the direction of Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
Memorial donations in Pepper's name may be made to the St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center, P.O. Box 5281, North Branch, NJ 08876 or to the Hunterdon Humane Animal Shelter, 576 Stamets Road, Milford, NJ 08848.
