Betty M. Shepherd, age 83, died Saturday, June 1, 2024 at the St. Luke’s Hospital – Warren Campus in Phillipsburg NJ.
Born November 24, 1940 in Somerville NJ, Betty was the daughter of the late John and Isabel (Fleming) Lantvet. She lived in Somerville growing up and later moved to Hunterdon County NJ in 1961 to start her family where she lived until moving to Alpha NJ in 2012.
Betty worked for more than 25 years primarily as a Payroll Supervisor for the Hunterdon Developmental Center in Clinton NJ.
Betty enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends and her home was often the place where holiday gatherings and special occasions were celebrated. She loved the beach, especially Point Pleasant at the Jersey Shore and New Smyrna Beach in Florida. Betty was a very talented crafter of baskets and other treasures, many of which were given away to family and close friends.
Her family knew not to bother her while watching her daily episodes of “Days of Our Lives” on daytime television. However, for Betty, family was everything to her and spending time with her children and especially her grandchildren meant the world to her.
In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her sister, Joan Hamner. She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Robert E. Shepherd, her three daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Kevin Cahalan of Flemington NJ, Victoria Walbert of Harmony NJ, and Christa and Richard Shalayda of High Bridge NJ, her four grandchildren, Kenneth, Ryan, Kaitlyn, and Donald, her great-granddaughter, Ariana, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
