Beverly Kuhl Hobday died unexpectedly on Sunday, 7 May 2023 at her Kingwood Township home on Federal Twist Road, Stockton NJ. She was 82 and had been born on 16 December 1940 at Somerset Hospital in Somerville NJ, the daughter of William V.F. Kuhl and Margaret Wieland.
Growing up in Three Bridges, Beverly graduated from Hunterdon Central High School in 1959 and in 1962 as a Registered Nurse from Muhlenberg Hospital School of Nursing in Plainfield NJ. She would eventually receive her Bachelor's degree from N.Y.U. Beverly first worked briefly as a nurse at Hunterdon Medical Center and then followed her interest in psychiatric nursing with a 30 plus year career at Carrier Clinic in Belle Meade, retiring from a senior position with that institution.
Beverly traveled to England in 1967 where she met John Hobday. They married there in London on 13 January 1968. After initial plans to emigrate to South Africa were thwarted by visa difficulties, they came to the U.S and bought and restored an old residence in Delaware Township. Their daughter Justine was born and grew up there. After a divorce, Beverly entered a relationship with Owen Hooley that has lasted to the present. They bought the home on Federal Twist Road where they have been living since.
One of Beverly’s many interests and talents was the stone fences on their Kingwood property which she rebuilt by hand. Similarly, she laid the large rock walls for the addition to their home. Inside, she was an expert rug maker some of which adorn their home. As an advanced bird watcher, Beverly traveled around the country seeking new entries for her list. Outside her kitchen window is a feeding station that attracts many types not frequently seen. Among the greatest things we will miss were the party cakes which she baked for family and friends. She had a natural touch for turning out delicious and moist layer cakes.
Beverly is survived by her long-time companion, Owen Hooley, her daughter Justine Carr, her son-in-law, Steven Carr, and her three granddaughters, Peyton Carr, Nevaya Carr, and Chelsey Carr, all of Phoenixville PA. Also surviving are sister-in-law Mary Lane Pannell Kuhl of Kalispell, Montana and her daughter Mrs. Kendra Kuhl Oltrogge, Kendra's husband Luke and children of El Cerrito, California, and finally, brother John Kuhl of Pittstown, NJ.
Graveside services will be held at Noon on Tuesday, 16 May 2023 at the William Kuhl plot behind the Three Bridges Reformed Church in Three Bridges NJ. There are no calling hours.
