Bjarne "Barney" Jelmert, age 94 years, of Readington Township, NJ, died on Wednesday, November 8, 2006 at his residence.
One of fourteen children, he was born in Staubo, Norway, November 20, 1911, the son of the late Nils Hjalmer and Othilie Emilie Lydersen Jelmert. He had formerly resided in Brooklyn, NY and Honey Brook, PA before moving to Readington Township fifteen years ago.
Mr. Jelmert was a retired plumber with Knud Tornquist & Sons, Brooklyn, NY and had also worked as a Foreman with American Drug Association, Long Island City, NY.
An attendee of the Evangelical Free Church, Montgomery, NJ he was also involved in the Bunker Hill Lutheran Church Seniors Group, Griggstown, NJ. Additionally, Mr. Jelmert was a member of the Princeton International Student Supporters group, Princeton, NJ.
One of his great loves was singing. He was a soloist and also sang in a quartet. Family gatherings were always a favorite of his, as was nature.
His wife of fifty-eight years, Anna A. Tornquist Jelmert, died in 1995 and his twin sister, Solveig Jorgensen, died in 2005.
Surviving are four daughters, Elsie Jelmert of Browns Mills, NJ, Helen Gudz of Readington Township, NJ, Evelyn Trueman of Pocono Summit, PA and Dorothy Stauffer of Honey Brook, PA; a son, Andrew Jelmert of Los Angeles, CA; two sisters, Teresa Nilssen and Olaug Sunde, both in Norway; a brother, Frank Jelmert in Norway; thirteen grandchildren, Suzanne Davis, Richard Gudz, Sharon Gudz Gecsey, Stephen Gudz, Gideon Gudz, Paul Gudz, Raja Rajan, Beth Rajan Sockman, Andrew Rajan, Matthew Trueman, Rebekah Trueman Taft, Elisabeth Trueman Manhart and Stephen Trueman; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Flemington, NJ.
