Boyden David Stretch, Sr., 88, of Frenchtown, NJ, passed away on Sunday, June 9th 2024 surrounded by the love of his family.
Boyden was born on March 23rd, 1936 in Somers Point, New Jersey to Thomas Stretch and Bertha Fenski Stretch-Murphy. Orphaned at age 6, Boyden grew up in various foster homes in South Jersey. He graduated from Audubon High School and went on to Trenton State College, where he met Doris Baird on September 10th, 1956 and fell in love. Boyden and Doris were married in 1958, and Boyden worked to support both of them through college. He graduated from Trenton State in 1959 and received his Masters Degree from Trenton State College. He went on to become an Industrial Arts Teacher at Delaware Valley Regional High School, where he served as the Industrial Arts department chairperson until his retirement in 1992. He touched countless lives during his tenure as a teacher and continues to be well loved by his students. He was an inspiration to all.
Boyden was a craftsman and a talented builder. He started construction on his family home on May 2nd, 1961, and moved in on December 15th, 1961. He loved to farm and to build and will be well remembered fondly by the furniture he built and gifted to his loved ones. Boyden loved people, dogs, and good food. He was a friend to many people and was so proud of the many years he spent teaching. He was also a member of the Flemington Baptist Church.
Boyden is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Doris, his daughter Rebecca Anca and her husband David Anca, his granddaughters Amanda Gulkis, Samantha Uhrig, and Rachel Anca, and his great-grandson Everett Gulkis, as well as his cherished German Shepherds Wesley and Tara.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at 10:00 AM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will follow in Blawenburg Cemetery, Skillman, NJ. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2024, from 9:00-10:00 AM in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that loved ones make donations to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741 or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
