C. Brayton Day, age 86 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died Friday, May 15, 2020, at his home.
Born in Trenton, NJ, January 31, 1934, son of the late Carroll A. and Luwella Lambert Day, Brayton had resided in the Flemington area since 1945.
Brayton was employed for over sixty-one years by Carver’s Auto Parts, Flemington, NJ which later became NAPA Auto Parts. He served in various capacities there during his career including salesperson, counterman and manager. After retiring as manager in 2005, he became a salesperson for the firm again until his retirement in 2018.Brayton was a 1952 graduate of Flemington High School and served with the US Naval Reserve 1952-1960.
Brayton was a member of the Flemington Baptist Church for seventy-five years and was an avid snowmobiler and member of the Barn Stormers Snowmobile Club of Old Forge, NY. He was also active for over sixty years in several Masonic organizations and was Past Master of Darcy Lodge #37, F&AM of Frenchtown, NJ and served as Grand Chaplain of the NJ Grand Lodge in 1996. Brayton was also active in the Clinton Chapter of the Royal Arch Masons in the local and NJ State lodges. He also enjoyed attending the Saturday night auto races at the former Flemington Speedway.
He was pre-deceased by his siblings, Arthur, Lambert and Gloria Day. Surviving are his wife of sixty-four years, Marie Hack Day; a son, Christopher Day of Flemington, NJ; three grandchildren Thomas Day and his wife, Amanda, C. Douglas Day and his wife, Amanda and Amanda Day. He is also survived by five great grandchildren, Lucas, Arabella, Skylar and Payton Day and Autumn Watson. Brayton is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Due to the pandemic, funeral services with interment in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Flemington, NJ will be private under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. There will be a public memorial service to be held at a later date and time to be announced.
