Carl E. Sorensen, age 89 years, of Flemington, NJ, died Saturday, February 8, 2014, at his home.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, July 6, 1924, son of the late Ferdinand L. and Elsie Pedersen Sorensen, he had resided in Flemington since 1952.
A science teacher for thirty-four years first at Flemington High School, then at Hunterdon Central High School in Flemington, he taught mostly earth science and retired in 1987.
Carl was a US Army veteran of World War 2, serving in both the European Theatre and in the Pacific Theatre.
He received his B.S. degree from State Teachers College, Trenton, NJ, and his MA degree from Columbia Teachers College, NYC.
Carl was a member, elder, and deacon of the Flemington Presbyterian Church; a member of the Hunterdon County Astronomical Society; a former officer with the United State Power Squadron and was a charter member of the Somerset Power Squadron which was organized in 1971. He served as the Commander of the Somerset Power Squadron in 1974.
Surviving are his wife of fifty-nine years, Jane Bauer Sorensen and several cousins.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at 4:00PM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will be private. Calling hours will be Tuesday 2:00-4:00PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Flemington Presbyterian Church, 10 East Main Street, Flemington, NJ 08822.
