Carl Weichert, 51, of San Francisco, California, passed away unexpectedly May 1, at home.
He was a digital video editor and computer instructor for the nonprofit Bay Area Video Coalition. Over the years he successfully contributed to a significant number of film endeavors, and also changed many lives in the classroom.
Born and raised in Livingston, New Jersey, he attended Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, before moving to northern California in the 1980s, where he continued his studies at the University of California at Santa Cruz. Every summer of his youth was spent in Stone Harbor, and he returned there whenever possible later in life. He loved sitting at the ocean’s edge with his feet in the water. Carl was an avid reader, and cherished good conversation, family, and friendship. He believed in, and was passionate about, several good causes, and during his 20s and 30s, Carl could be found at many a protest, rally, or other gathering.
Predeceased by his parents, Paul Weichert and Marilyn Smith (Van Nostrand), as well as all of his wonderful grandparents, aunts and uncles, Carl will be missed dearly by the many who loved him, including his brother, nephews, niece, stepparents, cousins, second cousins, and a myriad of lifelong friends and acquaintances on both coasts.
Graveside services will be held On Friday, May 22, 2015 at 11 AM in Rosemont Cemetery, 100 Kingwood Stockton Road, Delaware Township, NJ, under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ, on May 29, 2015 at 6 PM at BAVC in San Francisco; and on May 30, also in San Francisco.
