Carlton L. Brown, II, age 89 years, died Thursday, January 20, 2022 at his home in Raritan Township NJ surrounded by his loving family.
Born March 23, 1932 in Montclair NJ, Carlton was the son of the late William and Florence (Jones) Brown. He graduated from Montclair High School, then attended St. Peter's College, Jersey City, NJ, followed by Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ, then the University of Innsbruck in Austria, the University of Oklahoma, Norman, OK, and finally Columbia University in New York, NY.
Carlton honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1955 to 1958.
He worked as an Audiologist at Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington, in private practice, and for the State of New Jersey at the Marie H. Katzenbach School for the Deaf in Ewing NJ.
In addition to being a devoted husband to his best friend, the late Nancy D. Brown, he was a loving father and grandfather. Carlton was an avid reader, student and teacher, and loved spending time in the kitchen preparing a gourmet meal for family and friends. He spoke five languages fluently; English, German, French, Italian and Latin, as well as American Sign Language.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Nancy Davenport Brown in 2018, Carlton was predeceased by his sister, Jacqueline, and three brothers, Gilray, Edsel, and Ronald. He is survived by his two sons, Carlton L. Brown III and his wife, Nancy, of Frenchtown NJ, and William Brown of Talent OR, his grandson, Logan, and his granddaughter, Lydia, as well as his twin brothers, Wellington and Ellington, and his sister, Karen.
Carlton will be buried privately with Military Honors at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. The burial service can be seen via Live-Stream by
