Carmela Frances “Millie” Esposito, 94, of Flemington, New Jersey, passed away on January 29, 2023, after a lifetime of caring for and loving her family and friends.
Millie was born on May 25, 1928, to Michael Mason and Rose Fina Mason in Elizabeth, NJ. After graduating from Battin High School in 1946, Millie worked with Prudential Insurance Company in Newark, NJ.
Millie married her husband, Louis in 1968, going on to have two sons, Michael and James. When Millie had her first son, Michael, she decided to dedicate her life to being a fantastic and wonderful mother, as well as caring for her sister, Jean, and mother, Rose. Millie excelled at caregiving and supporting others through the many passions and difficulties of their lives. Whether that was nursing both Jean and Rose through the ends of their time on this Earth or showering her grandchildren with attention, sage advice, and all the love in her heart, she made it her mission to improve the lives of others.
Millie was an active volunteer and President of the Parent Teacher Association in her sons’ school, Blessed Sacrament, in Elizabeth. Later, after her sons were grown, she worked for the YMCA in both Scotch Plains and Union, taking great pride in being able to care for and be a part of scores of other children’s lives. Millie was a passionate fan of the New York Yankees, though she knew more about the players’ marriages and children than their RBIs or batting averages. She was meticulous about maintaining connections with her family members and friends, always sending notes or calling on holidays, birthdays, and other special occasions. Because of her generous heart, she loved everyone she met, so that all strangers became family. We and so many will miss her greatly.
Millie was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Louis, and her sisters Mary and Jean. She is survived by her sons, Michael and James, her daughters-in-law, Molly and Karen, and her grandchildren, Michael, Jake, and Rosalie.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Carmela’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
