Carole Ellen Lane, age 78, died Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at Pottstown Hospital in Pottstown PA.
Born April 16, 1943, in Newark NJ, Carole was the daughter of the late Alexander and Helen (Kazola) LaPatta. She grew up in the Somerville area, was a graduate of Hunterdon Central High School, Class of 1961 and eventually lived for many years in New Hope PA before moving to Pottstown a few years ago.
While serving as a waitress at the former Circle Diner in Flemington NJ, Carole met the love of her life, Kenneth James “Jim” Lane, and the two were married on November 15, 1986, until Jim’s death in 2017. The two loved to travel, taking many trips to favorite places like the Bahamas, Las Vegas, and cruises to Canada and the Caribbean.
In cleaning her home, Carole realized that she could earn a living as well and eventually became a custodian for the Hunterdon County Library, and later, part-time for Giant Food Supermarket in New Hope PA.
Carole enjoyed listening to music, especially from Rod McKuen and Neil Diamond concerts with her family. She loved to cook and her lasagna was always a family favorite. She often found a sense of peace reading passages from the Bible from time-to-time. Carole collected all kinds of ceramic birds throughout the years and she often had a pet cat in the house, which brought her much joy.
What most people will remember was Carole’s unmistakable voice which was just as big as her warm heart and affection for her family and many friends.
Carole is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Bernice LaPatta of Somerville NJ, her step-son and wife, Kenneth J. Lane, II and Hilary Trotman of Marlton NJ, her step-daughter and husband, Kim and Anthony Picone of Bangor PA, her two grandchildren, Kyle Picone and Lauren Picone, her two great-grandchildren, Bron and Carson, as well as her step-mother, Betty Lane.
Cremation services were private and under the direction of Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington NJ 08822.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Carole’s name may be made to the ASPCA, PO Box 96929, Washington, DC 20090-6929.
