On September 4, one of God's faithful daughters, Caroline Berry Fiess heard, "Well done, good and faithful servant...come and share your Master's happiness," as she went to be with her Lord and Savior. Born September 8, 1916, Caroline was second daughter of William and Caroline (Harman) Berry. She left her home in Norfolk, Virginia to attend Wheaton College in Illinois where she graduated in 1939. Married to her loving husband in 1941, she then lived in Ringoes, New Jersey. During those years of mothering four children, she also had piano students, taught elementary grades at Flemington-Raritan School, then obtained extensive post-graduate training and was a Reading and Learning Disabilities Specialist at East Amwell School for over twenty years. She lived a life of joyful and humble service to family, friends and all who were privileged to enter her home. A family highlight in their home for eighteen years was a Bible class for young people which she organized.
She and her husband, Norman attended Carter Road Bible Chapel in Princeton for many years where Caroline taught Bible studies and was a piano accompanist for services.
In 2001, Caroline moved with her husband from their home of nearly sixty years in Ringoes to Keswick Pines in Whiting, NJ where they have resided since. There she forged many new friendships and was in serving roles, playing the piano for Vespers and other services until January 2011. Her husband of nearly seventy years, Norman, loving her deeply until the end, survives.
She was predeceased by all four siblings and grandson, Christopher. Surviving children, Bill of Richlands, VA, Margaret Johnston (Phil) of Indianapolis, IN, John (Ginny) of Stockton, NJ and Elizabeth Walstrum (John) of Allegan, MI all arise and call her Blessed! There are also eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren who share the legacy Caroline left as a loving grandmother and great-grandmother.
Funeral services will be held at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ on Friday 11:30 a.m. followed by interment at Amwell Ridge Cemetery, Ringoes, NJ. Calling hours will be Friday 10:30-11:30 a.m.
