Carolyn E. Stout Jones, age 90 years of Heath Village, Washington Township, Morris County, NJ, died on Friday, April 22, 2011 in Heath Health Care Center.
Born in Phillipsburg, NJ, January 2, 1921, daughter of the late Clarence G. and Bertha Hoff Stout, she had formerly resided in Franklin Township, Hunterdon County, NJ for many years, moving back to Phillipsburg in 1989. She then moved to Health Village in 2003.
A 1938 graduate of Phillipsburg High School, she went on to graduate the Easton Hospital School of Nursing in 1941. She then earned her BS in Public Health from the University of Pennsylvania. Mrs. Stout began her Nursing Career in Hunterdon County working in the Public Health sector.
In 1964, she earned her elementary education certification from Trenton State College and worked as a classroom teacher for many years as well as a substitute teacher and school nurse.
Mrs. Jones served as Secretary and Registrar of the Franklin Township Board of Health for thirty-five years. She was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Alexandria Township, NJ; a member of the Clinton Womans Club; a volunteer at the Clinton Historical Museum; a member of the Phillipsburg Historical Society; and a member of the Phillipsburg Cemetery Society. Additionally, she was corresponding secretary of her nursing alumni association and coordinated her annual high school class reunion lunches.
Her husband of forty-one years, Reynier V. Jones, died in 1989; a son, Alan Jones, died in 1986; and a sister Ruth Poinsett Firth, also pre-deceased her.
Surviving are two daughters, Arlene (Lonnie) and her husband Lacy Taylor of Easton, PA and Elaine Jones and her husband John Woods of Ramsey, NJ; seven grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
