Carolyn Polhemus, age 99 years, of East Amwell Township, NJ, died Saturday,August 30, 2014, in Hunterdon Care Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born in Wertsville, NJ, May 4, 1915, daughter of the late Jonathan and Hellena Drake Voorhees, she had resided in Hunterdon County most of her life and,at one time, resided in Pennsylvania for ten years.
Carolyn was a graduate of Flemington High School where she was Captain of the Women's Basketball team and was a longtime member of Clover Hill Reformed Church.
She was formerly a quality control inspector at Knause Foods,Biglerville, PA. and then at Hunterdon Occupational Training Center, Raritan Township, NJ, until retiring in 1995.
Her husband, John C. Polhemus, died in 1976 and a son, Peter Polhemus, died in 1968. She was also pre-deceased by her brother, Robert Voorhees, and two sisters, Hilda Vogel and Lena Fenwick.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Luba Polhemus of Flemington, NJ; two daughters, Madaleine Polhemus of Harrington, DE. and Helen Romm of Reston, VA; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 5, 2014, at 12 Noon in the Clover Hill Reformed Church, 890 Amwell Road, Clover Hill, NJ. Interment will be in Clover Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Calling hours will be Friday, 11:00 AM- 12Noon at the church.
