Carolyn W. Titus

January 9, 1939 — March 11, 2017

Carolyn W. Titus, nee Williams, 78, died in her home in Whitehouse Station, NJ on March 11, 2017 after a lengthy battle with colon cancer and its after affects. She was surrounded by her husband, sister and her husband, step-daughter, a brother-in- law and his partner, and close friends at the time of her passing.

Carolyn was born in Scottsville, KY, on January 9, 1939, and was raised in Albuquerque, NM. She is a graduate of Albuquerque High School, class of 1957, when it was located on Central Avenue.

Carolyn went to work as a human resource specialist at Kirtland AFB immediately out of high school and spent a career of some 37 years in that field, mostly with the Department of Defense. She met her husband, then 2nd Lt. George Titus, when he was assigned to Field Command, Defense Nuclear Agency, on Kirtland. They were married in Las Vegas, NV, on September 16, 1972.

She and her husband literally traveled the world as both continued their careers and lived lives most people dream of during assignments at Athens, Greece; Mountain Home, ID; Montgomery, AL; Kaiserslautern, Germany; Denver, CO; and Honolulu, HI; as well as a return to Albuquerque. Following George's retirement from the Air Force, they lived at Denver and then in Edwards, CO, where George first owned then worked for H&R Block franchises in the area. Carolyn was chief receptionist and scheduling officer for the franchise they owned in Vail. They relocated back to New Jersey in 2010.

She enjoyed skiing to the extent that she was part of a small group that formed a ski club at the American Air Force base at Athens, Greece, with trips every year to various ski areas in Switzerland. During her stay in Germany, such trips were by auto and more numerous, and included resorts in the Tyrol of Austria and Italy's Dolomite Mountains as well as in Switzerland. Mountain Home, ID, is less than 100 miles from Sun Valley, so was also a destination she enjoyed as were the resorts in Utah where friends were stationed at Ogden.

Her travels included the islands of Corfu and Rhodes in the Adriatic and Mediterranean seas with Air Force friends at Athens and southern Italy; the Great Wall of China with step-daughter Anita while employed by the US Navy at Pearl Harbor in Honolulu; the Canary Islands off the coast of Africa while stationed in Germany; and Sydney, Australia, on a house-swap arrangement while living in the Vail Valley. Hers was indeed quite a career and thoroughly enjoyed.

Active, lovely, and vivacious, Carolyn was thoroughly loved and is sorely missed.

Carolyn is survived by husband George, a graduate of Flemington High School at Flemington, NJ, Class of 1955 and a retired Air Force officer; her sister, Wanda, of Denton, TX, and her husband, Wesley Kelley; step-daughter, Anita Mandell, of Glenview, Il, and her husband, Barry; two grand-children, Byron and Alena, also of Glenview; numerous nieces and nephews and literally dozens of friends both in America and in foreign countries. She also has numerous relatives in the Scottsville/Bowling Green KY and Lafayette TN areas.
