Charles Gordon Blackadar died on Sunday, July 16, 2006 in his home at Heritage Towers Retirement Community in Doylestown, PA. He was 82.
Born in Plainfiled, NJ, June 4, 1924, he was the son of the late Walter and Harriet White Blackadar. He has resided at Heritage Towers since November, 2003. Mr. Blackadar, along with his late wife, Virginia, moved to their home at 145 Woodview Drive in Doylestown in 1995 from Whitehouse Station, NJ, where they resided from 1976 to 1995.
He was a 1946 Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Princeton University and a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1946. He retired from MetLife in New York City as Vice-President of Real Estate Investments in 1988. His brilliance in the field and mathematics enabled him to write the real estate investment book, "Dynamic Capitalization", which was published in the early nineties.
He was a phenomenal flutist from his early boyhood and in later years studied and made Renaissance flutes (recorders). He was a member of the American Recorder Society and Princeton Recorder Society. He was also a member, until early 2006 of Old Guard of Princeton.
Mr. Blackadar was a member of the Doylestown Presbyterian Church and was also involved with the Flemington Presbyterian Church in Flemington, NJ where he and his late wife were members from 1976 to 1995. In previous years he had been a member of Dunwoody Methodist Church in GA, Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church in Sandy Springs, GA and First Park Baptist Church in Plainfiled, NJ.
He is survived by his four children, Glenn Blackadar of Langhorne, PA, Scott Blackadar of Lafayette, CO, David Blackadar of Reigelsville, PA and Laurie (Blackadar) Showers of Shoemakersville, PA; his brothers, Alfred Blackadar of State College, PA and John Blackadar of Watchung, NJ; a sister, Joy (Blackadar) Dean of Albuquerque, NM; and seven grandchildren. His brother Walter L. Blackadar, died in 1978.
Visitation will be Friday from 7-9 p.m. at the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the Doylestown Presbyterian Church, 127 East Court Street, Doylestown, PA, followed by a private burial at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains, NJ.
