Charles J. “Chappy” Soriero, Jr., age 83 years of Stockton, NJ, died Thursday, September 2, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loving family and his beloved cat Dusty.
Born May 23, 1938 in Stockton NJ, he was the son of the late Carmen and Betty Gralski Soriero. He was married to the late Betty Jane Kopunek of Frenchtown for 56 years and raised his family in Stockton. Charles attended the town’s historic Stockton Elementary School and graduated Lambertville High School in 1956. He served on the planning board for many years and was a member of St. Anges Church. He looked forward to attending mass, where he would sometimes serve as altar boy and bring his dear friend Anna P.
Charles worked as a Hunterdon County Purchasing Agent for many years until his retirement in 2003. Some remember him as the Stockton Borough tax collector, a position his daughter Diane now holds. He received a bachelor’s degree from Trenton State College. He loved watching the Philadelphia Eagles and cheered them to their first super bowl victory in 2018. An avid hunter and nature lover, Charles enjoyed spending time in the woods with his grandsons and attending his grandchildren’s football, track and lacrosse events and school plays. Charles was proud that his daughter and granddaughter were educators and attended every Back to School Night he could.
Charles is survived by his two daughters, Diane Soriero McDaniel of Stockton, NJ, Christine Soriero Trautman and her husband, Eric of Stockton, NJ; four grandchildren, Lydia Christine McDaniel of Princeton, NJ, Charles Edmonds McDaniel, Travis James Trautman, and Jeffrey Lee Trautman all of Stockton, NJ., his brother Billy Soriero of Harrisburg, PA, sister in law Nancy Soriero and the late Robert Soriero, his brother and sister in law Robert and Linda Kopunek and cousins Joan and Tom Komarek.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, September 5, 2021, from 2:00-5:00 PM in the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 5, 2021, at 5:00 PM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment in St. Magdalen Cemetery will be private.
