Charles L. Viola, age 90 years, of East Amwell Township, NJ, died peacefully on Tuesday, February 16, 2010, at his residence.
Born in Boston, MA, June 12, 1919, he was the son of the late Peter and Annie Ramasco Viola. He built his home in Wellesley, MA and raised his four children there, later moving to Tinton Falls, NJ, and Naples, FL.
He was a United States Army veteran of World War II serving in the European Theatre.
He was a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with a B.S. in Chemistry and a minor in Language. He spoke five languages. He retired from Reichhold Chemicals, in Carteret, NJ after working as their head chemist for over 25years.
Charles loved to listen to music and was an avid reader as well as a prolific gardener, builder, auto mechanic, and zestful cook! His wife, Ada Mazzuchelli Viola, died in 1999. They were married for 58 years. Charles was predeceased by one of his brothers John Viola of Westwood, MA. Surviving are two daughters, Carolyn Viola of Ringoes, NJ and son-in-law, Peter Elston, with whom he resided the past six years, and Charlene A. Knaster and husband Todd of Staatsburg, NY; two sons, Ronald C. Viola of Lake George, NY, and Richard P. Viola of Jackson Hole, WY; a brother, Lawrence Zorio and his wife Mary of Westwood, MA; seven beloved grandchildren; and three adored great-grandchildren.
Memorial Services and interment in Mount Hope Cemetery, Boston, MA, will be held on Friday, March 5, 2010 at 2 PM under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. In lieu of flowers, a donation in memory of Charles may be made to the charity of your choice.
