Charles "Zip" Landon, age 96 years, of Stanton, NJ, died on Sunday, January 10, 2010 at his residence.

Born in Readington Township, New Jersey, January 3, 1914, son of the late Charles and Phoebe Welsh Landon, he had resided in Stanton, NJ most of his life.

An excavator with Landon Excavating, Stanton, NJ for many years, he had formerly worked with Mannon Excavating, Flemington, NJ.

Mr. Landon was an avid bowler, gardener and hunter. He was a former member of the Stanton Gun Club as well as a devoted fan of both the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers.

A former standout pitcher in the Hunterdon County Baseball League, Mr. Landon formerly pitched for the Flemington, Whitehouse and White Swan teams. At one point, he pitched twenty-eight straight games without a loss.

Surviving are his wife of seventy-three years, Cora Hann Landon; a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Randy Simerson of Whitehouse, NJ; four granddaughters, Melody Simerson of Orlando, FL, Donna Nieliwodski of Whitehouse, NJ, Robin Simerson of Stanton, NJ and Kelly Taranto of Bozeman, MT; a brother, George Landon of Glen Gardner, NJ; eight great grandchildren: Morgan Biscone, Christl Aungst, Nicole Taranto, Kyle Taranto, Randi Taranto, MacKenzie Mervin, Cole Mervin, and Clinton Mervin; and two great- great grandchildren: Landon Aungst and Jordyn Aungst.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1:00 p.m. in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will follow in Newell Cemetery, Stanton, NJ. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the Funeral Home.
