Charles P. Wilson, age 85, died Sunday, March 3, 2024 at Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown NJ surrounded by his family. Born June 4, 1938 in New York City, NY, Charlie was the son of the late Charles Shattuck and Helen (Kiceniuk) Wilson Sr.
Charlie served as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps for 3 years from 1957 to 1960. After his discharge from the Marines, he worked for many years and retired as a Chief Lineman for Jersey Central Power & Light (now FirstEnergy). Many will remember Charlie mowing lawns in the area.
Charlie was a dedicated member of Whitehouse American Legion Post 284, he was the current Vice Commander and held that position several times throughout his time as a member. He also acted as the liaison for members to communicate better with the Veteran’s Administration.
Charlie had 61 years of service in the Whitehouse Fire Company, including all of the Fire officer positions, up to and including, Fire Chief. He also held the executive officer positions of President Vice President and Trustee, and was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge Post 6 in High Bridge NJ.
Charlie was always active and had many hobbies. Many days you could find him fishing off the Long Beach Island coast, or clamming in the bay near West Creek, or possibly “gigging” for frogs at a local farm in Hunterdon County with his sons. He also was an avid hunter, and was a proud Senior member of the Mahogany Ridge Hunting Club in Costello/Austin, Pennsylvania, where he owned a hunting cabin.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Joyce (Prince) Wilson, his two sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Christine Wilson, Keith and Karen Wilson, his daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and William Hunt, as well as six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services celebrated by the Rev. Christopher Small will be held at 11:30 am on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington NJ 08822. Interment with US Marine Military Honors will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery on Capner Street in Flemington. Calling hours will be Thursday morning from 10:00 am until the time of service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Charlie’s name may be made to the Whitehouse Fire Company No. 1, PO Box 215, Whitehouse Station, NJ 08889.
