Charles R. White, age 95 years, formerly of Flemington, NJ, died Thursday, August 5, 2021, at Abington Manor, Easton, PA.
Born in Grandin, NJ, October 22, 1925, son of the late Edward and Madeleine Marchand White, Charlie had resided in the Flemington area for many years, then in Chambersburg, PA for fifteen years and later in Buckingham, PA.
He was a truck driver for Tarantola Trucking Co., for twenty-seven years before retiring.
Charlie was a member of Teamsters Local #701; a charter member of VFW Post #7856 of Flemington, NJ and was a former member of the Raritan Township Fire Company.
Charlie was a US Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the destroyers, USS Dixie and USS Caperton in the Pacific. He was present at the Japanese surrender on a destroyer which served as a support ship for the battleship, USS Missouri. He enlisted in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1946.
A lifelong sports participant and fan, he especially loved baseball playing into his fifties and then became a baseball umpire for several years. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.
He was pre-deceased by his beloved wife of sixty-four years, Reta Prince White, who died in 2010 and was also pre-deceased by his son, Rodney White; two grandchildren, Rodney White and Mark White; and his siblings, Paul White, Raymond White and Lorraine White.
Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Susan White of Jutland, NJ; his grandchildren, Kerri White and Kendall White; and his great grandchildren, Peyton White and Cole Wrobeski.
Funeral services officiated by Rev. Christopher Small will be held Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at 11:00 AM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment with military honors will follow in Union Cemetery, Grandin, NJ. Visitation will be Tuesday 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home.
