Jean Morrison passed away in her Whitehouse Station home on Saturday June 4th at the age of 97.
As the matriarch of the family, she was born as Chloa Jean Smith on the family farm in the little town of Cleveland in southwest Virginia and was given the name “Chloa” after the wife of the doctor who delivered her. Her parents were Matilda and Henry Smith.
Jean is predeceased by her beloved husband, Donald Morrison who passed away in 2008 after 63 years of marriage.
Jean and Don raised their two children in Scotch Plains NJ where Jean was an avid homemaker, Girl Scout leader and was actively involved in the Fanwood Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School and volunteered in the church thrift shop.
Jean lived in various places, even as far away as Australia, but her fantastically fun 36 years of retired life was spent living on Crooked Creek Country Club in Hendersonville NC, and then later in Flatrock NC.
Jean was an avid golfer and entertainer and was a devoted member of the 1st Presbyterian Church in Hendersonville NC. Along with lots of volunteer church work, Jean also volunteered with the Council on Aging, Housing Assistance and Meals on Wheels.
A true southern belle, Jean was devoted to her home, her family and friends and put everyone before herself. Her home was kept immaculate, she was always well dressed, she loved to go to the theater, loved travel and sightseeing, baking, throwing parties, shopping with friends, and playing games. She was a true joy to be around, always had a smile on her face and a tin of home baked cookies in hand.
Jean is survived by her son Douglas Morrison, her daughter, Barbara Weinstock along with Barbara’s husband, Daniel Weinstock and their two children, Nicholas and Keith Weinstock.
Memorials can be made to Hunterdon Hospice at 215 Route 31, Flemington, NJ 08822, or, in lieu of flowers, cards or donations, please treat yourself to a small luxury, she would have appreciated that.
Jean was loved by all and will be missed by many…
