Clarence L. "Bud" Ownes

Clarence L. “Bud” Ownes, age 82 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died on Sunday, June 19, 2011 at his home.

Born in Trenton, NJ, November 17, 1928, son of the late Clarence Lewis and Catherine Gavin Ownes, he had resided in this area since 1945.

A 1947 graduate of Flemington High School, Flemington, NJ, Mr. Ownes was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War, being honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant. He and his wife owned and operated The Rug Mart, Inc., Flemington, NJ, since 1957 along with their son, Terry M. who joined them in the family business in 1979.

A communicant of St. Magdalen Church, Flemington, NJ, he was a former Councilman for the Borough of Flemington; a former member of the Raritan Township Utilities Authority; a former member of the Flemington Lions Club; and a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus with the Jubilee Council, Flemington, NJ. Additionally, he served for many years on the Board of Directors of Somerset Savings Bank, formerly known as Flemington Savings & Loan and served as its Chairman from 1983-1985.

Surviving are his wife, Florence “Terry” Teresinski Ownes; two sons and daughters-in-law, Terry M. and Ginger Ownes of Raritan Township, NJ and Scott and Susan Ownes of Monroe, CT; a daughter and son-in-law, Dodie Ownes and Mike Gagliardi of Golden, CO; a sister, Elizabeth Vandewater of Summerfield, FL; and five grandchildren, Kaitlin, Michael and Matthew Ownes, Paul Gagliardi and Briana Ownes.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Magdalen Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
