Clarence T. Moss, Jr.

Clarence Townsend Moss, Jr. passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2022, at The Bridges at Warwick in Jamison, PA under the care of the Ascend Hospice team. He was 96 years old. Born December 20, 1925, in Lockport, NY, he was the eldest son of the late Clarence, Sr. and Leah (Korff) Moss. He was confirmed in the Lutheran Church in 1939 and graduated from Lockport Senior High School in 1943. Clarence then served in the United States Army Air Corps as an Air Traffic Controller for two years during World War II, before being honorably discharged. After the war, Clarence earned his BS and MS from the School of Engineering at the University of NY at Buffalo. Then his MBA from CCNY Baruch College. His professional career began in 1949 at Niagara Blower Company where he was promoted to Director of Engineering in 1971, then again in 1974 to Executive Vice President, which was the title he held at retirement. In 1947, Clarence married Stella (Meyer) Moss in Lockport, NY. They were married for sixty-three years. The couple moved to Flemington, NJ in 1957, where he and Stella raised their three daughters: Terry Ann, Barbara Helene, and Carolyn Jean. In 1986 they returned to Lockport, NY and eventually retired to Buckingham, PA in 1997. Mr. Moss’ memberships included the National Society of Professional Engineers; New York Society of Professional Engineers; life member of American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers; Hunterdon County Horseshoe Pitchers Association; Kiwanis Club, where he served as President for several years; and the Elks Lodge. Additionally, Clarence was elected to the Hunterdon Central Regional High School Board of Education from 1972 to 1986, where he served three terms as President. A devout Lutheran, he was a long-time member and congregational elder of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Flemington, NJ, serving as President for several years. Most recently, he was a member of Family of God Lutheran Church in Buckingham, PA. Clarence was preceded in death by his late wife, Stella (Meyer) Moss, who died in 2010. Surviving are his daughters and sons in law: Terry and Doug Opsahl (Doylestown, PA), Barb and Bill Lieske (Valparaiso, IN), Carolyn and Joe Blair (Flemington, NJ); seven grandchildren: Ryan and Lindsey Opsahl, Benjamin, Daniel, and Jacob Lieske, Kelli and Shelby Blair; eight great-children; one surviving sibling, his sister Ann from Cumberland, MD; and beloved nieces and nephews. Funeral services, officiated by Pastor Jo Wright, will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 9, 2022 in the Family of God Lutheran Church, 4770 Route 202, Buckingham, PA. Graveside services with military honors and burial, next to his late wife, will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Capner Street, Flemington, NJ. Friends and relatives may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the church. Memorial contributions in Clarence’s name may be made to the Family of God Lutheran Church, 4770 US-202, Buckingham Township, PA 18912.
