Daniel Edward Wright Sr., age 87 years, of Islandia, NY, died on Monday, February 9, 2009 at the home of his son in Central Islip, NY.
Born in Little Neck, NY, March 12, 1921, son of the late Daniel R. and Elizabeth Wanser Wright, he had resided in Islandia for the past five years, having previously lived in Shirley, NY and Farmingdale, NY.
From 1962-1976, Mr. Wright was the General Superintendant for Wheeler Associates, Smithtown, NY, where he supervised the construction of many of Long Island's major retail centers. Prior to that, he was the Carpentry Foreman at Sawyer & Dolfinger, Great Neck, NY for fifteen years.
A decorated combat veteran of World War II, Mr. Wright served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army Air Corps, receiving three combat air medals. All his missions were served in the Pacific and his was the lead plane on the parachute drop of the Battle of Corregidor.
Mr. Wright was a Life Member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local #1397, Hempstead, NY. He greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing and all outdoor activities.
He was pre-deceased by his wife, Martha Davies Wright in 1996; one brother, William Wright, and four sisters, Beatrice Oldeack, Louise Baker, Ruth Wright and May Furstenburg.
Surviving are a daughter, Betty Ann Wright of Hauppauge, NY; a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel Edward and Judith Wright, Jr. of Central Islip, NY; three grandchildren, Neil and wife Amy Prasad of Holbrook, NY, Jennifer and husband Marc Kaplan of Patchogue, NY and Daniel James (D.J.) Wright of Raritan Township, NJ; four great grandchildren, Allison May Prasad, Camille Jean Prasad, Madeline Anna Kaplan and Dylan Daniel Kaplan; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. in the Thomas P. Walsh Funeral Home, Inc., 60 Carleton Avenue, Central Islip, NY. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-8:30 p.m. in the Funeral Home. Interment will follow on Thursday in Pinelawn Memorial Park, Pinelawn, NY, preceded by a gathering from 10:30-11:00 a.m. in the Funeral Home.
